About Us
MATI JERUSALEM was founded in 1991 by former Jerusalem Mayor Teddy Kollek and businessman Uri Scharf, and it became the model for Business Development Centers throughout Israel. Our goal is to bring economic growth to the city by expanding employment opportunities and investing in the next generation of entrepreneurs.
MATI Jerusalem is run by a diverse team with extensive experience in different aspects of business management and support services. We run programs that provide specialist responses to the unique needs of the city’s different populations, working in different languages and hiring business specialists from each community.
WHY JERUSALEM?
According to the Jerusalem Institute’s 2021 survey, the city’s population is among the poorest in Israel, with 31% of its Jewish residents living below the poverty line. Its income is dependent on the small proportion of the residents who pay business rates and income tax. Since many Jerusalem businesses depend disproportionately on tourism, the city suffers huge losses during every security crisis. Supporting its business owners should be a high priority for anyone concerned about the economic welfare of Israel and its capital city.
OUR IMPACT ON JERUSALEM
Since 1991, MATI has helped to create 60,000 new jobs in the Jerusalem area, contributing significantly to strengthening the city and regional economy. We assist entrepreneurs and businesses across a wide range of sectors, including technology, tourism, commerce, and other service industries.
MATI’s work with Jerusalem business owners strengthens their sense of community, helping them to expand and flourish in a supportive and professional environment. Through our collaborations with government offices and private entities, MATI strives to make continuous improvements to the services we provide, and to expand our positive impact on the Jerusalem ecosystem.
